According to the Director of Special Projects of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), music has influenced Ghanaian culture and national life considerably more than sports.

Daddy Bosco, whose real name is Ahuma Bosco Ocansey, stated on Asaase Radio this past Saturday: “If you look at the impact of music on national life, it far surpasses, with all due respect, what sports does.”

He underlined the significant contribution made by MUSIGA, an organisation that was founded in 1975 and still fights for the welfare and rights of artists.

“It is imperative for musicians to recognise that the Ghanaian Musicians Union, which was founded in 1975 and is still going strong, is the most reputable organisation representing musicians,” Daddy Bosco stated.

“No legitimate doctor in Ghana will say I’m a practicing medical practitioner and I’m not a member of the Ghana Medical Association,” he emphasised, citing other professional bodies including the Ghana Medical Association and Ghana Bar Association. similar to the Bar Association of Ghana.”

All artists should join MUSIGA, according to Daddy Bosco, if they want their line of work to be respected appropriately.

He stated, “They’ll realise that music is one tool they can leverage if we want our profession to be accorded the respect it deserves so that in terms of sharing the national pie we get what is due to us.”

The MUSIGA representative mentioned how Afrobeats music has helped to positively alter how the world views Nigeria.

“To put it another way, the perception of Nigeria has changed drastically if you look at the brand leverage Nigeria enjoyed just because of the new thing they have with Afrobeats,” the speaker said.

MUSIGA will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year, and Daddy Bosco urged musicians to help the organisation as it works to advance Ghana’s creative sector.
