Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) vice presidential candidate, has lambasted the New Patriotic Party (NPP) leadership for failing to solve the problems caused by the secondary school double-track system.

Speaking in Gbiniyiri in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba Constituency to kick off her Savannah Region campaign tour, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang contended that the system, which was implemented as part of the Free Senior High School program, is beset by problems for which the current government has no practical answers.

In reference to recent remarks made by Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum warning against the system’s immediate elimination, she said, “The Education Minister’s statement is a confirmation that the government has no solution to the challenges bedevilling the double-track system in secondary schools.”

Dr. Adutwum cautioned that pupils’ futures could be in danger if the double-track system were to be eliminated without careful planning.

The NDC has a well-thought-out plan to phase it out while addressing its underlying causes, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said.

She claimed that the NDC, in contrast to the NPP, had considered the problems with the double-track system and would implement solutions, such as increasing school infrastructure, to solve them.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang emphasised that the NDC had effectively eliminated the shift system at the basic school level and was dedicated to accomplishing the same for senior high schools, drawing on her experience as Education Minister.

She also blamed the NPP government for the education sector’s collapse, but she reassured Ghanaians that the NDC had workable measures to address the problems.

“Secondary education has hope, especially since the NDC has practical measures to fix the mess the government created,” she continued.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang promised that the party’s leadership would implement revolutionary changes in the educational system and urged voters to support NDC parliamentary candidates and presidential candidate John Dramani Mahama in the next general elections on December 7.
