Article Wan asserts that a hit song does not ensure an artist’s long-term success in the music industry.
The Ghanaian Afrobeats star emphasises that while a popular track may lead to temporary fame and financial gain, it is not the definitive indicator of an artist’s talent or enduring legacy.
In an interview with Graphic Showbiz on September 3, he remarked, “A hit song represents merely a fleeting moment. To achieve greatness as an artist, one must possess depth, substance, and a consistent output of quality music.”
Having gained recognition through his successful tracks, Solo and Ngege, Article Wan pointed out that numerous talented artists remain overlooked despite their significant abilities, simply because they lack a hit song. He noted that these artists often possess skills that surpass those of many one-hit wonders.
Furthermore, Article Wan introduced an intriguing perspective, suggesting that contemporary music listeners do not necessarily prioritise profound lyrics when determining a song’s success. “While today’s audience still appreciates meaningful lyrics, their expectations differ from those of earlier generations, such as during the time of Dr. Paa Bobo. The lyrical depth has diminished in modern music, as it is less critical for achieving a hit,” he explained.
He concluded by stating that the unpredictability of which songs will resonate with audiences makes it challenging for artists, even those who consistently produce hits, to forecast their success. Amid the ongoing discourse surrounding the Ghana-Nigeria music rivalry, Article Wan, whose real name is Bright Homenyah, advocates for significant investment in the Ghanaian music sector to enhance its competitiveness with Nigeria’s thriving industry.
He solidly accepts with sufficient financing, Ghana’s undiscovered melodic ability can be supported, permitting them to flourish and contend all around the world.
“We have extraordinary gifts in Ghana yet the issue is unfortunate speculation and that is killing many growing abilities however I trust things pivot to improve things,” he expressed.
