Biography Of Isaac Adongo.

Born on October 12, 1972, Isaac Adongo is a politician from Ghana who serves as a representative for the Bolgatanga Central Constituency in the Upper East Region of Ghana in the 8th Ghanaian Parliament, riding the National Democratic Congress ticket.

Adongo is a native of Bolgatanga. He is a University of Ghana and Institute of Chartered Accountants graduate.

Adongo was re-elected in 2020 after winning the initial election in 2016. He is a member of the Finance Committee of Parliament.

In 2022, he gained international recognition for his criticism of Ghana’s vice president, Mahamudu Bawumia, for using football player Harry Maguire of Manchester United and the England national team as a point of comparison in his speech criticizing the vice president’s financial record, referring to him as a “economic Maguire”. He compared the Vice-President’s efforts to make the Ghanaian cedi worth again to Maguire’s propensity for scoring goals with his own. In November 2023, he later expressed regret.

Adongo represents the Bolgatanga central constituency in the Seventh and Eighth Parliaments of the Fourth Republic of Ghana. He is a member of the National Democratic Congress.

Election of 2016

In the 2016 Ghanaian general election, Adongo ran for the parliamentary seat for the Bolgatanga Central constituency on the National Democratic Congress platform. With 25,042 votes or 51.41% of the total votes cast, Adongo won. He defeated Ayamga Richard of the APC, Sampson Ayindongo Akolgo of the PPP, Thomas Akurugu of the PNC, Abdul-Rahman Latifa of the Convention People’s Party, and Asanga Rex Simeon Atareyella of the New Patriotic Party in the election. The votes they received were 15,610, 431, 288, 174, and 169, respectively. This is equal to 32.04%, 15.25%, 0.59%, 0.36%, and 0.35% of the total votes.

2020 Election

During the 2020 Ghanaian general election, Isaac was re-elected to the legislature representing Bolgatanga Central (a constituency within the Ghanaian parliament) on the National Democratic Congress ticket. With 36,726 votes or 64.45% of the total, he was elected. With 19,794 votes or 34.84% of the total, he defeated New Patriotic Party candidate Rex Simeon Atareyella Asanga. Francis Ayadogo, the LPG’s parliamentary candidate, received 237 votes, or 0.42% of the vote, and Abdul-Rahman Latifa, the Convention People’s Party’s parliamentary candidate, received 214 votes, or 0.38% of the total.
