Biography of John Ampontuah Kumah

John Ampontuah Kumah was a politician, businessman, preacher, and attorney from Ghana who lived from 4 August 1978 until 7 March 2024. Before being chosen as a member of parliament for the Ejisu seat in the 2020 Ghanaian general election on the New Patriotic Party ticket, he held the position of Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP) (NPP).

Dr. John Ampontuah Kumah was a multidimensional individual whose accomplishments went well beyond the political sphere. He was a Member of Parliament (MP) for Ejisu in the Ashanti Region.

Dr. Kumah’s impressive career was formed by his vast educational background and diverse skill set. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics with Philosophy from the University of Ghana. He continued pursuing his love of law, graduating from the Ghana School of Law in 2013 with a Professional Law Certificate and a Bachelor of Arts in Law (LLB) in 2011. That same year, he was admitted to the Ghana Bar, and he started a journey characterized by quality and devotion.

John’s birthday is August 4, 1978. His hometown was Ejisu Odaho, a farming settlement in Ghana’s Ashanti Region’s Ejisu municipality. John Kumah studied at Kumasi’s Opoku Ware School, a secondary school. In 1997, he proceeded to the University of Ghana (Legon) where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Economics.

2009 saw him receive an MBA (Finance) from GIMPA. In addition, he held a Professional Law Degree (BL) from the Ghana School of Law and a Law Degree (LLB) from the University of Ghana. The Nobel International Business School awarded him a Post Graduate Diploma in Applied Business Research in 2019.

John Ampontuah Kumah graduated from the Swiss Business School in Switzerland in November 2020 with a doctorate in business innovation. The same university awarded him a master’s degree in applied research in business innovation.

Career

He was admitted to the Ghana Bar in 2013 and began serving as the Supreme Court of Ghana’s legal practitioner and solicitor.

He was a founding partner and managing partner of the Adabraka-based legal firm Aduaprokye Chambers. Before being appointed CEO of NEIP in 2017, he also served as the founder of Majak Associates Ltd., a building and construction company. John Ampontuah Kumah had more than fifteen (15) years of expertise in youth development, employment creation, creativity, invention, and resourcefulness.

On the platform of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Kumah ran for and was elected to the Parliamentary seat for the Ejisu constituency in 2020. Kumah held the position of Deputy Finance Minister.

Committees

John Ampontuah Kumah served as a member of the Appointments and Subsidiary Legislation committees in addition to serving as Vice Chair of the Constitutional, Legal, and Parliamentary Affairs committees.

Private life

Apostle Mrs. Lilian Kumah, the Senior Pastor and Founder of Disciple of Christ Ministries Worldwide, was John’s wife. In addition to numerous foster children, they have six biological children.

Awards and honors

John Kumah was named one of President Akufo Addo’s top 20 most humble and courteous appointees in 2019 and was deemed the most effective, well-known appointee for 2018.

On June 2, 2020, John Kumah received recognition from the Africa Centre for Integrity and Development (ACID), a civil society organization that advocates for good governance and fights corruption in Africa, for having the Most Outstanding Integrity as a CEO.

Attorney John Kumah was honored by GEHAB Events on Friday, August 23, with a second award for being the most outstanding CEO and Influential Transformational Leader.

During its sixth summit in Ghana, the All African Student Union (AASU) honored the former CEO of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovative Plan (NEIP) for his outstanding passion for encouraging student engagement and entrepreneurship.

John Kumah paid for five distinct sets of prosthetics for a few individuals hurt in auto accidents in August 2022. They were Moses Addai and Peter Mensah.

Demise

On March 7, 2024, in Ghana, Kumah passed away at the age of 45 following a brief illness.
