By 2030, 50% of Ghanaians will cook using LPG, according to the country’s energy minister.

The Ministry of Energy has reassured the public that all obstacles preventing the Cylinder Recirculation Model (CRM) from being fully implemented are being resolved with feedback from important stakeholders.

Herbert Krapa, the sector minister, stated that the CRM will be operationally implemented in 2025.

Customers can swap their empty LPG cylinders for filled ones at specific vending locations as part of the CRM distribution system.

After being sent to bottling facilities, the empty cylinders are filled and made available to more customers.

Speaking to the media at the 2024 Women in Energy Outreach Program, Mr. Krapa said he was hopeful that 50% of Ghanaians will have access to and be using LPG as their main energy source by 2030.

Everything is working nicely with the recirculation model. Stakeholders have expressed some initial concerns. The stakeholder consultation has been expanded and intensified. We anticipate a more vigorous implementation of the model beginning the following year.

By 2030, half of Ghanaians ought to be cooking using cylinders instead of firewood. Although the program is ambitious, we are confident in our ability to implement it, and we ask all parties involved to provide the necessary backing.
