Details of Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy’s UG concert drama: Allegations of sabotage and power play.

On June 8, 2024, two rival musicians, Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy, were due to play separate concerts at the same location, causing tension in Ghana’s music scene.

Stonebwoy was scheduled to perform at Liman Hall, which is part of the University of Ghana campus, and Shatta Wale was scheduled to perform at James Top Nelson Yankah Hall (TF hostel).

But Shatta Wale’s concert was postponed, which infuriated both the musician and his supporters.

Shatta Wale went on the attack on Stonebwoy on social media, claiming that he planned the cancellation so he wouldn’t have to play at the same location.

Shatta Wale insulted Stonebwoy in a contentious TikTok video, even bringing up his family.

Citing a personal grudge, he said Stonebwoy had used his power to force university authorities to cancel the event.

Investigations showed that Stonebwoy was not involved in the cancellation, in spite of Shatta Wale’s assertions.

On Twitter, entertainment analyst Olele Salvador explained that university authorities had canceled the event because they had not received prior consent.

“I can announce that the highly anticipated Reunion Rave and Artiste Night at James Topp Nelson Yankah—which featured Shatta Wale as the main act—has been canceled.

As part of a two-day alumni engagement, the Hall had scheduled a Reunion Rave and Artiste Night, according to a source within the university that DTS Intel Africa talked with. But since it wasn’t included in the original program outline that was submitted for approval, the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs had to cancel the event, he said at the outset.

Sammy Baah Flex, Shatta Wale’s manager, made more insights when he stated that although the concert happened, Shatta Wale was not allowed to attend due to an “order from above”.

Flex further revealed that Shatta Wale was allegedly threatened with a boycott by Stonebwoy’s camp if they included him in their performance.

Olele tweeted this information as well. It’s interesting to note that Mr. Flex also disclosed that Keche & Mr. Drew were the event’s original headliners. As to his statement, the Dean was fine with the previously described till Shatta’s announcement two days prior. He had heard that Stonebwoy’s crew had allegedly called the Dean and threatened to cancel their own performance if Shatta Wale was scheduled to appear.

“He claims that, in case the other party responds in any way, he has formally complained to the police; they are in good standing.”

He hasn’t yet addressed the scandal that followed the accusations made against him by Shatta Wale’s team, though.
