Driver of Akufo-Addo will run in La Dedekotopon’s NPP parliamentary primary.
President Akufo-Addo’s driver, Joseph Addo, has formally filed to compete in the La Dedekotopon NPP parliamentary primary, which is set for April 27, 2024.
After undergoing scrutiny and approval by the Greater Accra Elections Committee of the party, Addo feels optimistic about his prospects of regaining the seat for the NPP.
“Being born and bred in Louisiana, I have strong ties to this place. I am not unfamiliar with this constituency,” Addo said.
Following the resignation of Dr. Gerald Joseph Tetteh, the elected parliamentary candidate, for personal reasons, the constituency decided to have a primary.
The local Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Solomon Kotey Niikio, is running against Addo.
The NPP wants to win back the La Dedekotopon seat, which Rita Naa Odoley Sowah of the NDC won in the 2020 election.
After more than 20 years of working as President Akufo-Addo’s driver, Addo emphasized his contributions to the constituency’s growth.
“I have been instrumental in facilitating employment opportunities for the youth in this area within various government agencies,” Addo said. “Moreover, when the party needed a new office space following the destruction of the old office, I undertook efforts to secure a new office for the party.”
Addo, who is optimistic about his chances, declared that he will win the primary on April 27 and the general election on December 7.
