Final students receive a message from the NSS Director regarding service assignments.
Final-year students at various tertiary institutions have been exhorted by Osei Assibey Antwi, the Executive Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS), to embrace their future service postings and carry out their tasks with diligence.
His call came during a pre-service orientation session that offered feedback and instruction based on examples to help students get ready for their service year.
The goal of this training is to assist students in adjusting to evolving industry trends, consumer demands, and legal obligations. In his remarks at the Great Hall orientation, Antwi emphasised the value of national service as a chance for students to obtain real-world experience and advance the growth of their country.
He stressed that hardworking service members frequently get employment offers before their service year is up. He addressed the university students, saying, “The onus lies on each and every one of you to exert hard work and give your all during service, knowing that job opportunities await you at the day of reckoning.” Antwi also noted the difficulties that students could have when registering.
In order to prevent problems, he counseled them to give truthful information. He informed them that there are plenty of prospects for university graduates in spite of these obstacles.
Ghana is not an exception to the rule that there are difficulties in navigating developmental prospects elsewhere in the world. He said, “As much as certain obstacles will stare back at you, I have to reassure you that there are equally tasty possibilities you can take advantage of.
In line with Antwi’s advice, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus Glover, encouraged students to treat others with kindness and respect during their service year.
“A commitment to a life of service is evidence of a person’s strength of character and level of conviction. Avoid being indisciplined and be proactive. All of you are destined for greatness,” he said. In response, a representative of the National Service Scheme reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to community service as well as the important contributions that NSS members can make to the nation.
After graduating from an approved postsecondary institution in Ghana, students are required to perform a year of national service, which is overseen by the NSS. The Ministry of Finance sets the monthly allowances for service personnel during this time and makes sure the agreed amount is paid for the entire service year.
Not only is national service required by law, but it also marks a significant turning point in the transfer from college to the working world. It improves graduates’ abilities and employability by enabling them to put their academic knowledge into practice.
The NSS plays a critical part in this process by offering graduates a controlled environment where they can advance both personally and professionally while also contributing to the advancement of society. Throughout the orientation, students participated in a variety of activities designed to prepare them mentally and practically for their service year.
Time management, collaboration, and effective communication were the topics of sessions that emphasized the value of these abilities for both professional and personal growth. Ethical behavior and the importance of upholding professionalism and integrity in all facets of service delivery were also highlighted in the training.
Students were also urged to think of their service year as an extension of their education, where flexibility and never-ending learning are essential. By adopting this perspective, they can transform possible obstacles into chances for development.
The NSS’s support network was also emphasized, assuring students that help and direction will be accessible during their service term.
Ultimately, the orientation programme served as a rallying cry for final-year students to approach their national service with a spirit of dedication and enthusiasm. It emphasised how national service shapes the workforce of the future and advances national development.
Students can advance significantly in their careers and have a long-lasting effect on their communities by accepting their postings and working hard.
