Following the failure of the AFCON qualification, the GFA dissolves the Black Stars Management Committee.
After the Senior National Team (Black Stars) failed to qualify for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) disbanded the team’s management committee.
With just three points at the end of their AFCON qualifying Group F campaign, the Black Stars came in bottom of the group.
The GFA apologized for the team’s first-ever failure to qualify for the continental competition in 21 years in a press release released on Thursday, November 21, 2024.
In light of the Black Stars’ failure to earn a spot in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the Ghana Football Association (GFA) would like to sincerely apologise to the good people of Ghana. We share the anguish and sorrow of our cherished supporters, and we recognise the disappointment and annoyance this failure has caused. We sincerely apologise for the team’s performance, which fell short of the nation’s high expectations.
After multiple tournament group stage exits, Ghana’s inability to get to the championship next year sets a new low.
The GFA declared that the Black Stars’ Management Committee will be dissolved immediately in order to rectify this downturn.
The following significant decisions were made by the Executive Council during its meeting on Wednesday, November 20, 2024: The Management Committee of the senior national football team, the Black Stars, should be dissolved immediately.
We genuinely appreciate the Committee members’ contributions to Ghana Football over the years.
“On November 27, 2024, the Executive Council will meet with Mr. Otto Addo, the Black Stars’ head coach, to discuss his technical report on the recently concluded AFCON qualifiers and the technical team’s overall performance since he took over earlier this year.”
The GFA announced plans to hold a retreat to collect ideas on how to improve the Black Stars’ and Ghanaian football’s overall performance in response to the widespread requests for reform.
Participants will include past captains and players, coaches, supporters, football fans, SWAG, the media, the National Sports Authority, PFAG, sports-related professionals (such as doctors, economists, and marketers), and opinion leaders (including traditional rulers).
The Ghanaian Soccer Centre of Excellence will host the retreat on November 28, 2024. Its main goal will be to gather feedback from interested parties in order to create a plan for improving the Black Stars’ and other national teams’ performance.
