A lecturer at Germany’s Kassel University named Dr. Sowah Addo has observed that digitizing agriculture is one of the most reliable ways to guarantee food security.
“I think we could be able to help meet the demands of the ever-growing population on a sustainable basis when we can digitalize agriculture,” he stated.
At a public lecture in Sunyani, Dr. Sowah Addo spoke on the topic of “Digitalizing Agriculture: Can livestock learn to understand technology?”
As part of a partnership with GIZ, the Department of Agriculture at the Faculty of Applied Science and Technology of Sunyani Technical University hosted its inaugural public lecture to foster discussion on how best to use technology in agriculture, particularly when it comes to livestock.
Dr. Sowah Addo, an animal breeder, geneticist, and instructor in digital livestock husbandry, further mentioned that engineers, I.C.T. specialists, statisticians, and many other professionals work in the multidisciplinary field of digital agriculture.
The event was presided over by Professor Jones Lewis Arthur, dean of the Faculty of Applied Science and Technology, and was attended by several STU faculty members as well as non-academic staff members, including Kwame Ansah Duodu, head of the Department of Agriculture, and Prof. Zoya Evans Kpamma, dean of the Faculty of Built Environment and Applied Art.
