Mahama claims that Akufo-Addo is pressuring Ghanaian universities to grant him honorary doctorates.
John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has attacked President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, claiming that he has a penchant for honorary doctorates.
Mahama’s comments coincide with the President receiving multiple honorary degrees from Ghanaian universities as well as those in Africa and Europe throughout the previous eight years.
Mahama blasted President Akufo-Addo’s “appetite” for these honours while speaking at a campaign event in Kasoa.
He said the President was forcing Ghanaian universities to give him honorary titles.
“President Akufo-Addo has pushed for an honorary doctorate from every Ghanaian university. Mahama said, “I don’t even know where he’s going with the ‘Dr.’ title.”
In addition, the former president used the occasion to attack Akufo-Addo for what he sees as his lack of humility as he runs for office in the general election in 2024.
He made these remarks in reaction to the Western Region’s recent dedication of a statue dedicated to the president.
“Try me and see” ends with trials. Our current struggles demonstrate President Akufo-Addo’s lack of concern. He recently inaugurated a statue of himself in Takoradi for this reason.
