Mahama claims that the EC and the NPP are conspiring to rig the elections.
John Dramani Mahama, a former president and presidential contender for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has levelled grave accusations against the Electoral Commission (EC) and the current New Patriotic Party (NPP). Speaking to supporters at a small gathering in Sekondi on November 26, 2024, Mahama charged that the EC was conspiring with the NPP to rig the general elections scheduled for December 7.
Mahama said that the EC had intentionally manipulated the results to the ruling party’s advantage by appointing well-known NPP members as electoral officers in a number of areas. He gave specific examples, saying that 33 of these people were recruited in the Juaboso seat and 65 in the Gomoa East constituency.
Mahama exhorted his followers to be on guard, saying, “We have noticed that the EC and the NPP usually collude to rig the election.” “To preserve the integrity of our votes, we must all keep a careful eye on the election process.”
He urged the Electoral Commission to find and replace these people right away in order to resolve the problem. “This year, the NDC is extremely watchful,” he continued. “No party should try to rig the election.
Mahama also urged NDC supporters to exercise caution during the election process, stressing the need of avoiding any irregularities. He cautioned, “Even if you cast your ballot sensibly, the outcome will not represent the will of the people if the process is manipulated.”
Jean Mensa, the chairperson of the European Commission, responded by assuring the public that the Commission would hold free, fair, and transparent elections. In order to guarantee a seamless and reliable process, she underlined that all required preparations are in place for the next special voting exercise on December 2, 2024.
