The Graduate Unemployed Nurses and Midwives Association in Ghana has made grave allegations against the Ministry of Health (MoH) for job posting extortion, which is a worrying development.

The association alleges that by reportedly charging unemployed nurses and midwives additional fees for job placements, the ministry is engaging in questionable activities.

Despite playing a vital role in society, many healthcare workers find themselves in grave circumstances, as this disturbing report reveals.

The protests by these medical professionals are a response to a more serious problem involving funding approval and permanent employment assignments; the Ministry of Finance is also facing criticism.

For these people, the lack of opportunity has serious personal implications in addition to being a professional setback.

The association’s general secretary, Atta Asante, claims that members have experienced serious challenges as a result of the postponement of job advertisements, including evictions and illnesses brought on by unstable finances.

Asante made a sincere and impassioned plea to the Ministry of Health in an interview with Citi News, emphasizing the immediate need for action.

Members of the association are continuously advised to wait for a “soon” that never comes, leaving them in a state of uncertainty.

Some colleagues have stated that there are tales of expensive underground postings, which exacerbate the situation even further.

According to these allegations, there is a pay-for-posting program that discriminates against people who cannot afford the fees involved and compromises the integrity of hiring operations in the health sector.

The claims indicate a structural problem in the health sector, where money transactions are taking precedence over ostensibly merit-based assignments.
This behavior is especially depressing in light of Ghana’s dire need for medical personnel.
