NAGRAT demands that the Free SHS policy be reviewed.

The regulation should be reviewed to permit parents who can afford it to cover their children’s tuition and other costs, according to a request made by the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT).

The Association thinks that this will lessen the load on the government.

According to a report by Africa Education Watch, the average government spending on Senior High School (SHS) students from the academic years 2017–18 to 2021–2022 is as follows.

The survey found that parents spent GH¢4,185 years during the Free SHS policy, while government spending per student was GH¢1,241.

This demonstrated the difficulties the administration was having implementing the strategy, since between the academic years 2019–20 and 2021–2022, its budget credibility rate steadily decreased.
In light of this, NAGRAT is confident that a review will relieve parents of some of their burdens.
