The Nollywood actress Ruth Kadiri has shared her motivation for choosing to put her films on YouTube.

In an interview with BBC Pidgin, Kadiri revealed that she started posting her films on YouTube in an effort to find a forum where she could openly express her opinions and share her tales.

She explained how she initially felt discouraged but chose to give it a shot.

“I’ve been in the production industry for a long time, but there are just too many rules and regulations,” the producer remarked.

I therefore gave my colleagues a call and let them know that I would like a chance to express myself. For example, when I come across anything on the internet, I want to learn more about it and then I want to upload it elsewhere.

“I became bored while traveling to give birth and began viewing a lot of music videos. I also discovered that some individuals uploaded their films on YouTube.

“I promised myself I would try it again when I returned. There’s no money in it, several people informed me, discouraging me. But I made the decision to give it a shot since I needed a platform to share my stories and express myself.

“I told my crew that we should go ahead and shoot, and if the film turns out poorly, we will utilize it as a teaching tool.

Kadiri added, highlighting the wealth of potential on the site, that she is not concerned about competition in the YouTube market. (See also Ruth Kadiri of Nigeria threatening to sue Ghanaian TV stations for unauthorized airing of her programming.)

“I don’t personally care about competition since I think that as filmmakers, we are at the forefront and work hard.

People will go hungry if YouTube is eliminated from the market, with the exception of filmmakers and content producers.

“Many filmmakers are able to monetize their work on YouTube, and this is what is currently taking place. Because people are currently being fed by YouTube.
