The manager of Chelsea abandons the title challenge following Liverpool’s loss.
After Chelsea’s 4-3 loss to Liverpool on Wednesday, manager Emma Hayes of Chelsea declared that their chances of winning the Women’s Super League were over.

Aggie Beever-Jones’ goal in the ninth minute gave Chelsea a 1-0 lead at the break, and they were on track for a straightforward victory away from home as they chased a sixth consecutive WSL championship.
After the interval, though, the reigning champions were unable to withstand Liverpool’s comeback and eventually buckled under the pressure, losing for the second time in four days.
Despite having three games remaining, Chelsea’s coach Emma Hayes has already given up on her team’s title defence after the loss drops them six points behind leaders Manchester City with one game remaining.
“Although it’s not done mathematically, I believe the title to be finished.” It is our responsibility to keep going until the end of the season, but I believe it will be extremely challenging.
During my tenure here, this team has performed incredibly well to truly compete and strive for titles, Hayes remarked.

Hayes acknowledged Liverpool’s performance but expressed confusion at how her team allowed goals to be scored.
“I don’t know if we’ve ever let up four goals in one half before, but three of them came from set pieces, which is just not acceptable.”
However, I will give Liverpool credit. They carried out their strategy and got what they sought. They achieved their goals from set pieces and from that, they delivered,” she continued.
Similar to Jurgen Klopp of Liverpool, Chelsea had a chance to complete 2023–24 with a historic quadruple when Hayes announced her departure in November. However, since then, her team has lost the FA Cup, the Champions League, and the League Cup final.
