The top ten tourist destinations in Ghana are listed here.
The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has announced the top tourist destinations in Ghana for 2023, highlighting the thriving travel industry in the nation.
Slightly more than half of the 1,407,709 trips to different tourism destinations were made by the 1,157,632 people who investigated these top attractions, according to the GTA’s 2023 report.
Standing at the top of the list is the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, which saw 208,577 visitors even after reopening in July 2023 following significant repairs.
The redesigned National Museum is in second place, with 166,884 visitors, which is 12% of all visits to the top 10. It has surpassed the Kakum National Park.
With 159,271 visits, the Central Region’s Kakum National Park came in third.
After ranking third in 2022, the Kumasi Zoo dropped to fourth place with 142,518 visits in 2023.
With 101,134 visits in 2023, the historically renowned Cape Coast Castle claims the fifth position. This represents a minor fall in ranking but an increase from the previous year.
However, there was a sharp decline in visitors to the Aburi Botanical Gardens, which fell from first place in 2022 to sixth place in 2023 with 93,719 visits.
With 78,870 visits, the Elmina Castle, which was ranked number five, dropped to seventh position.
Bunso Arboretum, an ecotourism destination, came in eighth place with 78,203 tourists, while the Accra Zoo came in ninth place with 71,137 people.
The Manhyia Palace Museum, which had a rebirth with 57,319 visitations following renovations, completes the top 10.
The GTA credits the repairs and enhancements made to all of these attractions, which were crucial in driving up tourism in 2023, for the rise in visitor interest.
The aforementioned 10 destinations constituted a notable proportion of the overall arrivals, and they continued to have a major share of the market from 2019 to 2023, demonstrating the long-term popularity of Ghana’s varied tourism offerings.
