The University of Ghana SRC presidential election is won by Guru.
Guru, a singer from Ghana and the creator of the hit song “Lapaz Toyota,” has been chosen to lead the University of Ghana’s Students’ Representative Council (SRC).
This triumph follows a hotly contested campaign that included several challenges, disqualifications, and court fights. Maradona Adjei Yeboah, also known as Guru, and Jeffrey Adu-Yeboah, his running companion, received a combined 50.7% of the vote, or 9,455. The election saw an astounding 18,659 students cast ballots.
On Sunday, September 15, the exclusion of singer Maradona Adjei Yeboah (aka Guru) and Emmanuel Owusu Amponsah from the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) presidential election was overturned by the University of Ghana’s Appeals Board, in a remarkable turn of events.
Guru was initially disqualified from contesting by the SRC for not fulfilling the necessary requirements.
The Vice Dean of the University of Ghana ordered that Guru, Amponsah, and their running mates’ names be added to the list of presidential candidates, despite the judicial board upholding the disqualification.
