While her Christian faith firmly opposes divorce, popular gospel vocalist Ohemaa Mercy has sparked controversy by claiming that she received confirmation from God before divorcing her spouse.

Ohemaa Mercy, who had been tight-lipped about her marriage difficulties and subsequent divorce, appeared to have broken the “silence” in a recent interview on TV3, where she discussed seeking the face of God during her marital crisis and receiving clear guidance from God to proceed with divorcing her now ex-husband.

According to the Ote Me Mu singer, she would never have made such a decision if she hadn’t received God’s approval, as she fasted and prayed on a mountain for three months to seek God’s guidance on her next steps regarding her marriage.

“I remember when I went through my divorce. During COVID-19, I relied exclusively on God for guidance; I made a firm covenant with him. I plan to spend three months praying in the mountains, and I am eager to hear what the Lord has to say about what is going on around me. So, when I heard it clearly, I took the daring action. I got God’s confirmation; otherwise, I would not have done it.

“I give God the glory because I am divorced, but this is the time I have seen the hand of God so strong on my life, even more than when I was married,” she told me.

Ohemaa Mercy, who successfully hosted this year’s Tehillah Experience on Sunday, September 8, revealed that she spoke with her husband, who not only supported her decision but also encouraged her to fully surrender to God’s guidance and blessings in her life, particularly her ministry.

“When I spoke with my partner, he agreed that we needed to take a pause, pray, and see what the Lord would do. I told him, “I really want us to take a break and relocate the ministry, which I know is your passion for me.” Let me go with it; let us look after the youngsters and support one another. If I’m going through something, we discuss it. I don’t want to fail God because I believe I am failing Him,” she said.
