Kennedy Agyapong’s remarks regarding Ato Forson’s trial.

A noteworthy development occurred on Thursday, May 23, 2024, in the trial of Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the former deputy minister of finance, concerning the acquisition of around 200 ambulances during the Mahama government.

During cross-examination on Thursday, one of the accused made several accusations against Godfred Yeboah Dame, the Minister of Justice and Attorney General.

Richard Jakpa said that the Attorney General had contacted him at strange hours to ask for his cooperation. According to 3news.com, he made this accusation during the court sessions on Thursday, May 23, 2024.

After Dame accused him of shielding Ato Forson, he said these things and threatened to provide additional information if the Attorney General pressed him.

“The AG has on several occasions engaged me at odd hours to help him build a case against A1, and I have evidence of that,” he said.

“I’ll open Pandora’s box if he pushes me.” The third accused is cited as saying, “I don’t understand why the AG would accuse me of defending A1 when I’m here to defend myself.”

The strength of the government’s case against Ato Forson, the leader of the minority caucus in Parliament, has come under scrutiny in light of this development.

During conversations concerning the most recent development, a video surfaced featuring Kennedy Agyapong strongly criticizing Ato Forson’s trial has been discovered online.

In March 2022, Kennedy Agyapong questioned the administration’s choice and issued a warning that Akufo-Addo government appointees may encounter significant difficulties if a subsequent NDC government chose to go the same course.

“I don’t agree with Ato Forson’s legal case. Yes, the truth will kill me because, according to Kennedy Agyapong, “the current ministers praising this must be careful if you say someone is a finance minister and a different ministry brings their contract to him to establish an LC (Letter of Credit) and you say this now.”

He maintained that the contracting ministries, not Dr. Ato Forson, should be in charge of making sure the contract is delivered.

“In theory, it is not Ato Forson’s duty to verify whether the products were delivered if you claim he is costing the state money since he created an LC for a ministry. That specific ministry bears the accountability, which is why he set up the LC to investigate. Kennedy Agyapong remarked, “I disagree if that is the only justification for charging him with inflicting financial harm to the state.

Kennedy Agyapong spoke against the idea of holding ministers accountable for financial losses to the state, stating, “Merely putting ministers on notice that they will follow Ato Forson’s lead will not give them the authority to sign agreements going forward.”

Sincerely, I have always disagreed with the accusation that I caused the state to suffer financial loss,” he continued.
