Pope Obumneme Odonwodo, also referred to as Junior Pope was a Nigerian actor and producer of motion pictures who lived from May 7, 1984, to April 10, 2024. He started his career in 2006 and starred in the films Bitter Generation (2010) and Secret Adventures (2007).

early on and in schooling

On May 7, 1984, Odonwodo was born in Bamenda, Cameroon. born to an Igbo mother and father, Luke Odonwodo. He and his siblings resided in the Bamenda, Cameroon region until he moved to Nigeria to complete his elementary and secondary schooling.

Career

He intended to become an accountant after finishing his accounting degree, but in 2004 he decided to pursue a career in film acting, appearing in mainly supporting roles at first. In the 2004 movie Lost in the Jungle, he made his acting debut in a little part. Later that year, he made more film appearances.

Pope joined the Nollywood scene in 2006 and became well-known for his performance in the Nigerian film Secret Adventure in 2007, which was directed by Tchidi Chikere and featured his breakout role. He developed a relationship with his fans as a result.

Pope performed in over 100 Nollywood movies following the movie’s release, such as Throne of Tears (2008), Always Mine (2009), Mad Sex, Blood Afair (2021), Gbege (2022), and No Way Through (2023).

Pope made two appearances in 2022: first, in the Nollywood film Gbege; second, in April 2023, he demonstrated his acting prowess in the film Honey Money.

Up until his passing in April 2024, Junior Pope maintained a chemistry both on and off screen that the Nollywood community valued much.

Individual life

Odonwodo adhered to Christianity. Three children were born to Junior Pope. Pope married Jennifer Awele Okpuno on July 26, 2014; the two had connected on Facebook.

Demise

Pope’s boat overturned in the River Niger in Asaba, Delta state, as he was en route to film a movie. He and the other three crew members perished. Pope’s passing was reported by the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN). They said they had tried and failed to resuscitate him. After calling the authorities, he was declared dead on the spot. 39 was his age.
