#Election2024: Bawumia to Mahama: “Call your supporters to order; you won an election, not a coup.”

Concerns over violence and vandalism reportedly committed by National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters have been voiced by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Dr. Bawumia urged President-elect John Dramani Mahama to step in and bring his party’s supporters back into shape in a statement posted on his Facebook page on Monday, December 9.

He urged His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, the president-elect, to demonstrate statesmanship by controlling his followers in order to maintain national harmony and peace.

Dr. Bawumia claims that tension has been raised in several regions of the nation by instances of lawlessness, including as the seizing of collation centres and assaults on people and government buildings.

“I want to remind President Mahama that he has not staged a coup d’etat; he has won an election. He has an obligation to help safeguard people and property,” he emphasised.

The NPP flagbearer emphasised the need of preserving Ghana’s democratic principles and peaceful cohabitation, saying that the election process was generally seen as legitimate and should not be marred by violence that occurred after the election.

He warned that if there is ongoing lawlessness, people may be forced to defend themselves by going on the defensive. “Mr. Mahama and the NDC should demonstrate that they are not reluctant democrats,” he stated.

The activities were deemed regretful by Dr. Bawumia, who also bemoaned the purported targeting of private properties, governmental institutions, and perceived opponents.

He asked for quiet to preserve the tranquilly that marked the elections and reaffirmed the significance of putting the interests of the country before political achievements.
