By overseeing instability in the House, Bagbin is igniting the nation, according to Afenyo-Markin.

Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has been charged by Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin of overseeing lawlessness among National Democratic Congress (NDC) members.

This came after, during Thursday, November 7 proceedings, he charged that NDC MPs were participating in lawlessness by once again occupying the side of the majority in the House.

“The speaker supervised chaos,” he stated during a press conference in Parliament on Thursday, November 7.It is obvious that the NDC is headed towards war; they desire chaos and lawlessness in this nation, and Mr. Speaker is overseeing all of this.

“We were disappointed by the Speaker’s non-reconciliatory stance during his press conference; he is blazing the nation on fire.” We urge him to show statesmanship and let him know that, notwithstanding our displeasure on the day of his election, it was members of our party, not the NDC, who installed him.

“Democracy is being harmed by Mr. Speaker. How is it possible for the speaker to claim to respect the Constitution while refusing to follow its rules?

Speaker Alban Bagbin postponed Parliament for the second time indefinitely. When the House met again on Thursday, November 7, following an earlier adjournment on October 22, the Speaker adjourned because the NPP caucus was not in the chamber.

Bagbin claims that the extended postponement resulted from Parliament having nothing to discuss because the Business Committee neglected to submit a business order for the

House.

“We don’t have any business to conduct before us.We are once again adjourning the House due to the business committee’s inability to convene due to the rejection of those who requested a recall.I go ahead and adjourn the meeting indefinitely once more,” Bagbin said.

After Bagbin adjourned the House indefinitely on Tuesday, October 22, due to the NPP MPs’ boycott of Parliament and the resulting lack of a quorum for the House to sit, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Caucus in Parliament demanded an immediate recall of Parliament.

In a memo to the Speaker, the Caucus stated, “We respectfully request that, upon recall of the House, the following urgent government business be deliberated upon and transacted, including any other business that comes before the House.”

Nevertheless, the NPP MPs did not appear in the Chamber on November 7 and did not present the business order for which they had requested for the recall of the House after Bagbin heeded the Caucus’ request.

Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the leader of the NDC caucus in Parliament, clarified that his side of the House attended the Business Committee meeting only to discover that the NPP MPs on the Committee had not arrived.

Ato Forson told the media immediately after the House adjourned that he had contacted the NPP about the issue, but that no MP had replied.

When we arrived at the Business Committee meeting this morning at around seven o’clock, we saw that the NPP members had once again failed to show up.

“When I personally called the committee clerk, I was told that no one had called to let her know of the day’s business and that she was out of the jurisdiction.

Ato Forson clarified, “I was concerned and reached out to the NPP side to have an indication as to what their plan is, but nobody responded.”
