#Election2024: In the Ashanti Region, Mahama leads Bawumia by 669,724 votes.

In the Ashanti Region, President-elect John Dramani Mahama defeated Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia by a significant margin of 669,724 votes in the 2024 presidential election, according to Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Dr. Omane Boamah highlighted the NDC’s growing clout in the historically New Patriotic Party (NPP)-dominated area at a post-election briefing.

Claims of Unusual Behaviour

Concerns regarding potential ballot stuffing by the NPP were raised by Dr. Omane Boamah’s allegations that 500,000 forged ballots were found in Kwadaso.

He asserted that “the gap in the Ashanti Region would have exceeded one million votes without these fake ballots,” implying that the NPP’s electoral success was largely dependent on dubious tactics. He also charged the party with exaggerating its level of support in the area.

The Increasing Presence of NDC in Ashanti

The NDC leader emphasised the party’s increasing popularity in the Ashanti Region, which has always been regarded as the NPP’s electoral core. Initiatives like the party’s #EAGLEEYES program, which aimed to reveal electoral anomalies, were credited by him with this progress.

According to Dr. Omane Boamah, “the next generation of leaders must perfect our systems and turn the Ashanti Region into an emerging electoral battleground.” “Ashanti can benefit more from the NDC than the NPP.”

Strategic Contemplations

The comments made by Dr. Omane Boamah highlight the NDC’s desire to build on its victories in the Ashanti Region and keep up the fight against the NPP’s hegemony there. He exhorted party officials to take advantage of this momentum and fortify their position in the area.

The NDC is ready to improve its tactics and expand its reach into areas that were once thought to be NPP strongholds as it considers its noteworthy election successes.
