On May 3, Teacher Unions Begin Regional Demonstration With the Volta Region.

According to the most recent reports from the Ghana Education Service, teacher unions intend to start regional protests to make their demands known. On May 3, 2024, the Volta Region will welcome its first professional teachers.

The unions representing post-secondary education threatened to take drastic measures after the government failed to demonstrate commitment in the continuing negotiations with the teaching unions.

On April 24, 2024, the regional secretaries of the Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT)-GH, the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), and the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) signed a letter.

The Volta regional demonstration is scheduled for May 3rd, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. It is anticipated in the announcement that 150 professional teachers will be present.

The demonstration is scheduled to take place along the following itinerary, which has been announced: GCB Bank-Market Branch, Ola Trafficight, Civic Centre, Fidelity Bank, and Regional Education Office.

To terminate the protest, the participants will deliver a petition to the officers of the Regional Education Office.

If the government does not acquiesce to the demands of the nation’s trade unions, including the teacher unions, additional regions are anticipated to declare their rallies in the days ahead.

The Volta Region Regional Executives of the Teacher Unions (GNAT, NAGRAT, and CCT-GH) would like to notify your office that we plan to demonstrate against the government’s persistent unwillingness to improve our working conditions per the Public Order Act, 1994 (ACT 491).

8 a.m. to 11 a.m. is tied.

Convergence point/route: Civic Centre, Fidelity Bank, Ola Traffic Light, MMarket Branch of GCB Bank, and Regional Education Office.
