Sonnie Badu: “No gospel musician called or enquired about me when I was sick last year.”
Ghanaian gospel musician Sonnie Badu, who is currently residing in the UK, has opened up about the disregard he received from fellow gospel artists following a life-threatening injury sustained in 2023 just before his performance in the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference (AICC) in the previous year.
In a recent interview on Joy Prime, the award-winning singer revealed his profound sadness that none of his fellow gospel performers had visited or sought out him during his recuperation. Not a single person enquired about me. In my opinion, I would have called if I had heard or witnessed someone go through something.
Whether or not I get along with you doesn’t matter to me. However, not a single one did.
He remarked, “I had to get up fast because even if I died, nobody cares. That’s when I realized that not even a single gospel artist colleague or pastor would check up on me.”
However, he expressed his gratitude to others who reached out to him on social media, including Pastor Kingsley of the Lord’s Parliament Chapel International, Prophet Agyemang Prempeh of Ultimate Charismatic Centre, Nigerian Pastor Jerry Eze of NSPPD online prayers, and Apostle Amoako Atta of the Lord’s Parliament Chapel International. Sonnie Badu has drawn criticism for revealing his traumatic story, with many people on social media doubting his intentions.
Some people have claimed that gospel singer Sonnie Badu is creating controversy in order to promote his programme; similar claims were made last year when he pulled off a successful show at his Rhytms of Africa concert after posting pictures of himself on crutches and revealing that he had undergone major surgery following a domestic accident a few weeks earlier.
It’s interesting to note that some netizens speculated that the domestic accident was merely a pretext for Sonnie Badu to promote his concert, and their suspicions may have been confirmed when the gospel singer took the stage and delivered a memorable and unique performance that will undoubtedly stick in the minds of those who attended.
