Election 2024: Osae-Kwapong: Peace agreements need to be supported by action.
Political parties and other parties involved in the general elections of 2024 have been urged by Dr. John Osae-Kwapong, a Fellow at the Centre for Democratic Development (CDD), to show a sincere commitment to peace by taking tangible steps instead of just signing peace pacts.
In her Saturday, November 30, 2024, appearance on The Big Issue, Dr. Osae-Kwapong recognised the value of peace agreements in developing communication and a nonviolent culture. He did, however, warn that although important, such agreements are insufficient to guarantee a peaceful election process.
Even while the peace pact’s signing is crucial, there are other factors that provide a 100% certainty of peace on election day. All parties involved must demonstrate the kinds of actions that demonstrate a commitment to peace in addition to signing the agreement.
The peace accord for the general elections of 2024 was committed to and signed by the flagbearers of the major political parties and independent candidates on Thursday, November 28.
Prior to, during, and following the December 7, 2024, presidential and legislative election, each contender vowed to uphold peace.
