Denis Odoi is out as Alfred Duncan’s Fiorentina advances to the Conference League final.
Denis Odoi and Alfred Duncan of Ghana played in the second leg of the semifinal of the UEFA Europa Conference League, with Duncan advancing to the championship game for the second time in as many years.
After defeating Brugge 3-2 in the first leg held in Italy, Fiorentina drew 1-1 with the Belgian team Brugge in Belgium to go to the final via a 4-3 aggregate victory.
In the match that took place in Europe’s third division, the Black Stars pair had different responsibilities in the second leg and different outcomes.
As a member of a two-man defensive midfield unit, Odoi began the game for Brugge but was dismissed in the 86th minute after receiving his second yellow card.
The seasoned defender got 66 touches, won five of eight ground battles, and completed 45 of 50 pass attempts. Throughout the game, he made three interceptions.
Duncan has another opportunity to win the championship after playing a part in Fiorentina’s 2-1 loss to West Ham United in the previous season’s final. The final this year will be held on May 29 in Athens, Greece.
Arthur Melo was substituted by former Inter Milan midfielder Duncan in the 71st minute, and Duncan played 19 minutes in the match. He finished all five accurate pass attempts and won all three ground duels.
