NPA guarantees a steady supply of LPG to the public.

The public has been reassured by the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) that there is no immediate threat to Ghana’s supply of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) or shortage of the fuel.

This guarantee comes after recent rumours that the nation may be experiencing an LPG shortage.

According to data released by the Authority in a news statement on Thursday, the country’s current LPG supply is enough to last almost two weeks.

“As of October 9, 2024, the opening stock of LPG was sufficient to meet nearly two weeks of national consumption,” stated the NPA.

Additionally, according to the NPA, the Sentuo Oil Refinery produces LPG every day, bolstering the country’s supply even more.

The Authority further said that, as part of the LPG Tender program, about 20,000 metric tonnes of LPG are expected to be delivered between October 21 and October 27, 2024.

LPG supply to the Western and portions of the Central Region was impacted by a recent power outage at the Ghana National Gas Processing Plant in Atuabo, which was acknowledged by the NPA.

However according to the Authority, this problem has been resolved by rerouting Tema’s LPG supplies to these impacted locations.

“Checks with the Ghana National Gas Company (GNGC) on 8th October 2024 indicated that the power challenge has been resolved,” according to the NPA.

It is anticipated that the gas processing facility will resume normal operations on October 15, 2024.

The NPA further pointed out that the remaining Tema depots are under strain as a result of some LPG Marketing companies (LPGMCs) boycotting specific LPG terminals.

“The refusal of these LPGMCs to load from these depots limits the volume of LPG that can be loaded from the Tema depots in a day,” the Authority said.

Notwithstanding these difficulties, the NPA stated that it is collaborating closely with all stakeholders to give loading to the Western Region first priority in order to meet the unique difficulties there.

The Authority promised the public that it would keep a careful eye on the situation and issue updates as needed.”We will continue to liaise with the Ghana National Gas Company regarding the resumption of the Gas Processing Plant to regular production and update the public accordingly,” the statement continued.
