EC instructs GFP National Executives to designate a new flagbearer within ten days.

Following the death of its flagbearer, Madam Akua Donkor, the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) national executives have been instructed by the Electoral Commission (EC) to propose a replacement presidential candidate within ten days.

The GFP is anticipated to move quickly to put a qualified candidate on the ballot in lieu of Akua Donkor, who died at Ridge Hospital in Accra, in light of the approaching elections.

Following the Commission’s official notification of Madam Akua Donkor’s passing, this decision was taken. The EC also briefly stopped producing the nearly finished presidential ballot papers due to the passing of Madam Akua Donkor.

“The Commission has since informed the GFP to make arrangements to nominate a new candidate and inform the Commission accordingly,” the EC stated in a statement signed by Mr. Samuel Tettey, Deputy Chairman in Charge of Operations, on October 29, 2024.

The Commission has halted the production of the Presidential Ballot Papers, which were almost finished, in the interim.
