In 2024, no MC has had a greater impact on pop culture than me—Portfolio.

MC Portfolio, the MC/Hypeman of the Year winner of the Guinness Ghana DJ Awards, has listed some of the traits and pursuits that distinguished him from his contemporaries during the reviewed year.

The MC and media personality said in an interview with Roselyn Felli on Joy Prime on Thursday, November 14, 2024, that he was pleased the scheme’s organisers had finally acknowledged his efforts after he had missed that specific award four times.

Portfolio claims that although if many of his well-known performances did not take place in Accra, his impact on the event hosting industry cannot be understated.

Some of us are the few adaptable people who have registered in some way, and as a result, we have participated in some of the nation’s largest events, though you might not be aware of this because they may not be held in the capital.

“We have hosted some of the most prestigious royal events in West Africa, including Otumfuo’s 25th anniversary concert, the largest all-black party that is currently trending, one of the biggest sporting events, and a discussion about ‘talkability’. No MC has had a greater impact on pop culture than Portfolio,” he said.

He went on to say that, more than any other MC nominated in the Guinness Ghana DJ Awards for the year in question, he truly embodies the description of the MC/Hype man category.

One of the few flexible MCs in Ghana that provides a clearer definition of such category is Portfolio. We are discussing the year’s MC/Hypeman. This is the host culture’s hybrid depiction. Someone who has registered a household brand between the hypeman, which is the rave and funfair portion of it, and the prim and proper moderation portion of it. “I’ve done both of them with a lot of style over the years,” he clarified.

At the 2024 Ghana DJ Awards, which took place on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at the Palms Convention Centre in Accra, Ghana, MC Portfolio was named the Best MC/Hypeman of the Year. He and Kojo Manuel, a radio host at YFM in Accra, shared this honour.

Kojo Manuel, meanwhile, has expressed his dissatisfaction with the joint award, saying he feels he is the category’s only winner.

“I don’t think there’s anything like a tie,” he stated in a recent interview on 3 Music TV. I doubt Ghana would hold an election and declare the NDC and NPP victorious. I’ve never understood the idea of the tie, and the Ghana DJ Awards haven’t released an official statement explaining why.

“I’m not sure what you’re comparing it to because everyone is aware of the job I completed throughout the reviewed year. Regretfully, there comes a time when you have to defend yourself after receiving an award because someone else has,” he continued.
